Steps To Hope Counselling

What services do you offer?
We offer individual counselling, single session, family meetings, covering a range of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship problems and stress management.

What are your qualifications?
I hold a masters in CBT and DBT and am a credentialed mental health nurse with almost 30 years experience

How do I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule an appointment by calling our reception office or filling out the contact form on our website.

What are your fees?
Counselling sessions are $150aud for 60 minutes
Clinical supervision are $80aud for 60 minutes

Do you bulk bill?
Yes, but you will need a referral.
​
Can I claim on Medicare?
Most sessions you will be eligible for the Medicare rebate, but you will need a referral.

Do I need a referral?
If you are claiming the Medicare rebate, then yes you will need a referral.
You can self refer but you would not be eligible for the Medicare rebate.

What can I expect during my first session?
The first session is typically an assessment where we discus your concerns, gather background information, and set goals for your therapy.

How long are the sessions?
Sessions are for 60 minutes. Sessions will need to commence and conclude on time. If you are running late your session will conclude at the original time, it cannot be extended.

Is my information confidential?
Yes. All information shared during your session is confidential and protected by law. We adhere to strict privacy policies to ensure your information is secure.

Are there any exceptions to confidentiality?
There are a few exceptions, such as if there is a risk of self harm to yourself or others, or if there is a legal requirement to disclose information.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
We have a 24 hour cancellation policy, Please notify us at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule to avoid a cancellation fee of $50aud.
How can I prepare for my first session?
Think about what you'd like to discuss and any goals you may have. It might also be helpful to write down any questions or concerns you may have.

What if I don't feel comfortable with my counsellor?
It's important to feel comfortable with your counsellor. If you don't feel like it's a good fit please let me know, and we can discuss this to see if we can resolve any issues.

Do you offer online counselling?
Yes, we offer online counselling sessions via a secure video conferencing platform for your convenience.

What should I do in case of an emergency?
If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please call 000, or a Mental Health Triage in your local area, or go to the nearest ED. Our services are not intended for emergency situations.
